Baby Prep | Hospital Bag

When it comes to packing for the hospital I have a "less is more" outlook. I didn't pack too much when I had my daughter but I've minimized my list even more now that we're preparing for the twins. In this post I'll go through the things in my bag and also point out things that my hospital (and most others) provide which really helps shorten the list!

Beauty Items

I didn't bring too much in the way of makeup when I had my daughter, but there are a few key items that helped me feel more "awake" and "presentable" that I had to throw in. Some mamas may not bring any, some may bring twice as much, it's all personal preference! This is just what made me feel comfortable.

Makeup  |  Covergirl Clean BB cream, L'oreal True Match Powder, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer, Maybelline Bronze Color Tattoo, Elf Beautifully Bare Natural Glow Palette, It Cosmetics mini Brow Power, Lancome Mini Mascara, lip balm (not pictured)
Hair  |  Hair ties/clips, Dry shampoo (travel size), brush, microfiber hair towel (not pictured)
Tools  |  Tweezerman mini tweezers, Lash curler, 3 versatile brushes

I felt this list was pretty flexible depending on what I felt like wearing. I may not use any makeup in reality, but it's good to have just in case. I could just go for concealer with a bit of powder or BB cream with some bronzer and blush to perk up my complexion. I didn't bother with eyeshadow because let's face it, I'm not going to waste my time with that at the hospital. If I do want a bit of color on the lid, I can always use the bronzer and highlighter in the Elf palette to liven things up a bit. To me, I just wanted some basics to even out my complexion and minimize the look of exhaustion I'll be sporting for the foreseeable future!

Clothes

While I don't spend the entire hospital stay in a hospital gown, I also don't go all out with fancy robes, matching pajamas or things of that nature. I want comfortable "lounge" clothes that I feel good walking around in as well as laying in bed. This time around I've included:

Tops  |  2 nursing tanks, 1 going home shirt, 2 pjs shirts, cardigan for over tanks
Bottoms  |  2 pairs of yoga leggings (they stretch and fold down easily!) and pajama pants
Misc  |  Underwear, nursing bra, couple pairs of disposable nursing pads, socks, slippers, flip flops for shower

I was really minimal with my list because most of what I'm bringing suits multiple purposes. My leggings are comfortable enough to sleep in, my cardigan is presentable but also soft enough to nap in etc. Bringing flexible pieces like that really helps pair down the list of things to bring. Also, hospitals provide mesh underwear (lovely I know) that's pretty darn comfortable after having a baby as well as slipper socks I happen to be a fan of. Take all the freebies you can get, mamas!

Toiletries

This list also considered things my husband would need as well (shampoo, conditioner, etc) so travel size items come in really handy! Here are the toiletries I'll be bringing:

Hair  |  Shampoo and conditioner (travel size), hair serum, hair dryer
Basics  |  Toothbrush, toothpaste, bar soap, deodorant, razor, q-tips
Skincare  |  Travel size face wash, moisturizer, exfoliator, body lotion and witch hazel pre-moistened face wipes

You may notice I left one must-have personal item off this list - pads! Hospitals provide these by the boatload so I'm not about to waste precious space in my bag with them. They're free, they work, why not take them while they're available?

Baby Items

This is another list that is very personal depending on what you're comfortable with. Some mamas want to have their babies in their own clothes right from the beginning. Hospitals do provide onezies and blankets so they won't be left out in the cold by any means! They also provide diapers and wipes (or gauze you'll need to wet) so that saves space as well.

Clothes  |  2 sleepers, 2 short sleeved onezies, 2 pairs of mittens, 2 hats
Feeding  | 2 bottles for pumped milk

I used a wet bag to put the babies' outfits in to keep them separate from my clothes and prevent them from falling out of the bag when I go sifting through my own things. Plus they stay cleaner!

Items that may be obvious are my wallet, phone, and charger. I'm also throwing a small tote in my car for things like pump parts I get at the hospital, freebies, papers etc. No matter how light you pack, you leave with more than you arrived with! Our little peanuts will be here by the end of November so let the countdown begin!!
